Pho is an authentic Vietnamese noodle soup. Today, there are several types of pho such as pho chicken, pho seafood, and vegetarian pho. The broth is well prepared with special herbs and stewed with either beef bones, chicken bones, seafood, or vegetables to bring out a gentle flavor and sweetness. The prepared broth is served with the meat, seafood, or vegetables, along with a bundle of cooked rice noodle, thin slices of green onion, bean sprouts, and cilantro.
There are several web sites and You Tube videos on how to cook pho. However, pre-made condensed broths are recommended if cooking pho for the first time (click here). We also have special herbs for those who want to make the broth from scratch. Fresh rice noodles can be found in Asian or Vietnamese markets. If they aren't easily accessible, we have dried noodles, with different widths, available for your convenience (click here).
Some flavor enhancers that are great with pho are hoisin sauce (Tuong Den), Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce, basil, eryngo (Ngo Gai - family of cilantro), lime juice, and hot green peppers.
